New Orders – things to consider before ordering
Are you starting a new business or looking to make a change? Perhaps you are ready to introduce your product to the market or rebrand one with an old outdated look. We’ve all heard how important it is to make a good first impression. When you are ready to showcase your product, presentation is key. This means that you should be careful when selecting your packaging. You should make sure it fits your product, inserts, and other materials. Measure your product! Make sure you can fit all of the information you want on the box and that your carton can support the actual weight of your product. Then measure again (just to be safe).
Look at your competitors. See what is consistent, what works, what doesn’t, and how you can make your product stand out. Picture your product on the shelf next to your competition, how do you get your product noticed first?
Ordering on a smaller scale for your first round of packaging can lead to great cost savings. You may decide after your initial trial that there are some vital changes that need to be made to your packaging. Those changes could really increase the appeal of your product. Get opinions before you print big. This is an advantage to ordering in smaller quantities. Don’t rush it. When designing your packaging, get multiple ideas and drafts. Compare and contrast. Which one appeals to you, your friends, your family? Don’t get hung up on one idea. Know your target market and always keep them in mind with every business decision. Does your design appeal to your target market?
When selecting colors, bright and bold colors are popular because they stand out and grab attention. That being said, it is important that the colors you choose match your overall look, your brand, and your logos. If you have multiple products, make sure that you can expand by adding on to your current line while keeping your products uniform and recognizable. Show your customer that your new item(s) belong to the same family of products.
Always remember, it is okay to get help. You don’t have to do it on your own. It can be overwhelming. The added cost of a graphic designer is minimal in the grand scheme of things and will save you unnecessary grief and frustration. Time is valuable, and the time you save will allow you to do more of what you do best. So what’s stopping you? Let get packing!
